When Will Punisher Season 2 Premiere?

Punisher debuted in season 2 of Daredevil and crossed paths with Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) while on a crusade to seek vengeance on those who killed his family. The character was a fan-favorite addition to Netflix’s corner of the MCU, prompting the company and Marvel TV to green light The Punisher. Now, season 1 of The Punisher has premiered on Netflix, allowing fans to take a deeper look into Frank’s mission to avenge his family and evolve into a fully fledged Punisher.
While reviews of The Punisher have been mixed, fans who enjoy season 1 of Marvel’s latest may be looking ahead to when season 2 could debut on Netflix. Unfortunately, the earliest a second season of The Punisher could premiere is mid-2019, though late 2019 or even 2020 seem like more reasonable dates.

Even if the reception from fans and viewer numbers prompt Marvel and Netflix to renew The Punisher, it’s still one of six total Marvel series that stream on the platform, and the premiere date of a proposed season 2 would need to fit in around the other shows. Currently, we know new seasons of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage are set for 2018, and if we assume Netflix continues only debuting three Marvel series a year, that pushes a sophomore outing of The Punisher to 2019. However, a second season of Iron Fist is also in the works, and is expected to premiere after the new seasons of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage – putting it in an early 2019 release window.
After Iron Fist season 2 hits Netflix, it’s a little more unclear what Marvel has planned for its lineup of shows on the streaming platform. At this time, The Defenders hasn’t been renewed for season 2, and it’s unclear if Marvel TV will reunite their street-level NYC heroes for a second outing of the team-up miniseries or integrate more crossovers in the standalone shows. If The Defenders season 2 doesn’t happen, The Punisher season 2 could be the next second Marvel show to hit Netflix in 2019; but, if The Defenders is renewed, it would likely take precedence over a sophomore season for Frank Castle. Still, the earliest The Punisher season 2 will premiere is mid-to-late 2019.
With all that being said, Marvel and Netflix haven’t decided yet whether to renew The Punisher, so it remains to be seen if Frank Castle’s solo show will continue at all, let alone when another installment will premiere. Plus, with Marvel TV’s parent company, Disney creating their own streaming platform that will launch in late 2019, it’s unclear how the Netflix lineup of MCU shows will be affected. Unfortunately, with The Punisher season 1 only just premiering, it may be sometime before we get official word on a renewal, and much more time until season 2 would get a premiere date.
The Punisher season 1 is available in its entirety on Netflix. Premiere dates for the new seasons of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist have yet to be announced.
