Taika Waititi’s Korg Gets His Own Thor: Ragnarok Poster

Thor: Ragnarok has been praised for many reasons, including the film’s comedic edge, an approach largely influenced by Waititi’s encouragement of his impressive cast – including Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Cate Blanchett (Hela), Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner/Hulk) and Jeff Goldblum (Grandmaster) – to improvise their lines (at San Diego Comic-Con, Waititi revealed that around 80 percent of the dialogue was improvised).
But among the talented pool of players in the film who brought their respective characters to life, some unexpected favorites are emerging among fans, including the lovable, blue-rock creature Korg. Created in a motion capture performance by Waititi, Korg befriended Thor during his imprisonment on Sakaar while the God of Thunder was awaiting his Contest of Champions match with the behemoth eventually revealed to be Hulk. Thankfully for fans, Waititi and Marvel realized Korg’s potential during filming, and his role was expanded to become a notable participant in the film’s final act.
Now, in celebration of the character’s (and Waititi’s) contribution to Thor: Ragnarok, Marvel Studios has released a new Korg character poster. Revealed on the official Thor Twitter account Friday, Korg is pictured in an awesome “hero” pose, and is surrounded by some of the space ships featured in the film. Outlining the photo are the antlers of Hela’s crown. Like the previous Thor: Ragnarok character posters, the Korg poster has a trippy, neon color scheme.
While it’s cool that Korg is getting his own character poster, it’s not the first time the mighty character has been singled out. In September, Waititi himself revealed the Korg Funko POP! figure on his Twitter account, playfully commenting, “The greatest character in the MCU, played by the greatest actor in the known world, is now the greatest toy in existence.”
And as Thor: Ragnarok fans have discovered, Waititi wasn’t kidding. With an action figure and character poster, the sky is the limit for Korg, who, along with his buddy Miek, will have a place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, according Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige.
